ABOUT PS

Filmmaker Phyllis Stuart has created films, shows, events, concerts, plays and authored a book, short stories, books and blogs.

 

Stuart grew up in a small Midwestern town with one glorious 1928 movie theater which every Saturday opened its doors to raucous children to watch films in glorious Technicolor; she’s been hooked on story-telling ever since.

 

Defined by taste, tenacity and talent, since earning her BFA from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, Stuart followed a winding creative path developing her personal potential while also serving the community. After three decades testing the elasticity of her skills, Stuart is now an accomplished creative force across a variety of disciplines. Using art, media and advocacy filmmaker, Stuart directs, writes and produces media to tell engaging stories that utterly envelop audiences. 

 

Having spent years working in the non-narrative genre, Stuart is currently developing a narrative series entitled The Long Game.

 

In 2023, Stuart was hired to write, direct and produce the non-narrative television series Treasure Hunt For Health.

In 2022, Stuart’s launched Hope In The Wild West, a non-narrative series set in America’s rural western states, which she conceived, produced, wrote and directed.

 

In 2020, Stuart released her hard-hitting, feature-length documentary film, Wild Daze which she from a fierce desire to save the African wildlife and protect women, children and indigenous forest peoples. Wild Daze premiered at the 41st Mill Valley Film Festival and is now streaming across North America.

 

Stuart produced Bert Stern: Original Madman, a documentary feature film acquired and theatrically released by First Run Features.  

 

Stuart is passionate animal rights activist and created, produced and directed a television series Jungle Rescue in which her team rescued exotic animals from American basements and backyards.

Stuart also directed and produced two other feature-length documentaries The Paranormal Portal: Where Science & Spirit Meet investigating the link between consciousness and science after the untimely death of her father in 1997 and in 1995, produced and directed the non-narrative feature film I Think I Cannes, a Roger and Me romp set at the 50th Cannes Film Festival and market.

In 1998, Stuart founded and produced The WINFemme Film Festival which ran four years in Los Angeles and which programmed the work of independent male and female artists who created films that told a woman’s story.

In 1995, Stuart created and Executive Produced her first television show 50 Years of Funny Females, an ABC primetime television special, which starred John Ritter, Debbie Allen, Paula Poundstone and Annie Potts. 

Also an activist Stuart founded Women’s Image Network (WIN) to advance gender parity and has produced, directed and wrote its 25 Women’s Image Awards ceremonies including creating its show performances and honoree tribute reels. In 2024, WIN celebrated Ann-Margret, Loretta Devine and Regina Scully.

Beginning her career as an actress after securing her BFA from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, Stuart moved to Los Angeles to create her one-woman show, A Raging Volcano Goddess. For the play, Stuart secured Sears as its sponsor and wrote, produced and for six weeks performed to benefit Gilda's Club, the charity founded by her buddy Gene Wilder.
